Pygmalion
A new interpretation of one of the crown jewels of French baroque music.
In a coproduction with Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Holland Festival presents the world première of a new programme featuring the dance opera Pygmalion by the 18th century French composer Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764). It’s the first collaboration between the ballet company of legendary New York choreographer Trisha Brown and the orchestra and choir of William Christie’s Les Arts Florissants. In conjunction with four top soloists they bring an exciting new vision of this high point in French baroque music. The programme opens with fragments of Rameau’s Hippolyte et Aricie, followed by Pygmalion, the story of a sculptor who falls in love with his own ivory creation and begs the goddess Venus to bring her to life.
On 13 and 16 June, there will be a pre-performance talk, lasting about 45 minutes. On 15 June, you will have the opportunity to meet the artists in the Foyer after the performance. Your ticket for that evening will enable you to attend both the introduction and the Meet & Greet.
